Cue the trombone.
Rachel Dratch, the creator of the Saturday Night Live character' Debbie Downer ', is experiencing some abrasive real-life ironies of her own.( Wa-WAAAAA ) These are truly downer times, even for comediennes. These are not good times for the un-medicated. Unemployment is no laughing matter for Ms. Dratch. Poor dear probably will end up in a refrigerator crate under an overpass, giving blood for beer money, like Garret Morris ( wa - waa ! )
Those thirsting to know more about her plight will find details on her status in an article by Justin Ravitz in 'New York Magazine', pg. 14, in the April 14 issue.
" Unemployment's a Downer For 'SNL '-er Dratch---and Vanity Fair rubs it in. "
" Rachel Dratch is learning it's not funny being an out of work comedian. She left Saturday Night Live two years ago and then was replaced on " 30 Rock ". What's she up to now ? ' Maybe you can tell me, she said at a ' Smart People ' screening on March 31. ' I know you're supposed to come up with the fake stuff you're doing. But honestly, I'm not doing much'. After SNL's hectic pace, isn't downtime nice ?' It's starting to get old ', she said. ' I'm starting to go crazy. I'm ready for a job ". The low point came, she said, when " Vanity Fair ' arrived with its cover story on women in comedy, featuring a dozen top comediennes - none of whom was Dratch. ' Dude, that was a dark day', she recalled. I was like, Oh, there's everyone I worked with' She's not picky about her next gig. ' I'd work with a black-box theater at this point', she said."
Sounds like waiting on tables at the IHOP is starting to look good to Miss Dratch. Surviving the Bush Depression is getting rough for all of us, what with fuel and all the basic commodities going through the ceiling. Is it too much to ask for a good laugh ? Where the Hell is Lorne Micheals ? Can't he just pick up the phone and get her a comedy club gig ? How about Debbie Downer as guest host for an upcoming Saturday Night Live ? And what of Tina Fey or Amy Poehler ? Isn't there something they can do for their old pal ? Or have they both forgotten the past, now they are riding high with their own careers? Bitches....
How soon they forget.
Wa-Waaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

You're a bit late in the game here. ;) She never mentioned the word "unemployed", and she is doing quite well with some new jobs and a few promising films awaiting release. :)
